15'' x 40''
Inspired by the Scandinavian folk tale 'East of the Sun, West of the Moon', where a young woman must traverse the polar landscape to rescue her lover, this hand woven wall hanging was crafted with wool locks from a rare breed Swedish sheep, mull (a thin open-weave linen), alpaca, cotton, sari silk ribbons, chiffon gauze, and other natural hand dyed fibers. The fibers roll across the warp thread, like the shifting clouds in varying whites and creams in the Arctic Circle. The mull at the top of the woven wall hanging was hand cut to resemble the thin air over the ice fields. The sari silk ribbon fringe has been meticulously hand wrapped with linen thread to mimic the impossible task the heroine must undertake in order to save her bewitched beloved: to repair a shredded silk shirt coated in tallow wax.
