Learn how to weave intuitively, and make your own 'fibre poems' while you try your hand at the basic skills of tapestry weaving on a frame loom. In this 3 hour class, you'll learn the essential stitches to get well on your way to developing your own unique style. We'll go over the tricks and tools of the trade, learn about incorporating unconventional materials into weaving, and how to use texture, technique and concept to create an original piece of woven wall art.
Each student gets to take home a sustainable loom kit with birch tools (needle, 2 shuttles, pick up stick and comb) from Black Sheep Goods, enough yarn to finish their project, a tapestry weaver's reference zine, a tote/project bag for your work, along with your very own in-progress tapestry!
There will be lots of time to weave, get personal feedback, and steal a few of my tapestry secrets...
Supplies: All materials will be provided, however you are encouraged to bring your own yarn or an old fork to use as a tapestry beater. (Let me know if you’d like to use vegan materials).
Sustenance: Light refreshments will be provided. Plus, I'm right upstairs from Village Coffee & Goods, if you need a pick-me-up.
Location: Kat Howard's studio in Kingston, NY (address is in the digital file)
Date: Sunday, April 7th, 1-4 pm

P.S. If you already have the basics of weaving down, I also offer private mentorship sessions where I work with students to find your voice, a point of view, and a concept that will speak to your individual experience as an artist. Email me for details
