‘Moon in Net’ was created for a collection entitled: WITCH TAPESTRIES. In an era of witch hunting, any imperfection on a woman could be used to condemn her to death. By examining this history of the persecution of the female body through tapestry, Kat Howard interrogates her own identity as a survivor of physical and sexual violence. After being raped, the artist was told by some of the women in her family that attempting to convict the man who did it, would be like trying to capture the moon in a net, and it was better to let things lie.
This hand woven wall hanging was made with handspun nettle thread, mull, and handmade paper.
