Inspired by a ritual mask from Mali, a piece in the Arts of Africa permanent collection at the Metropolitan Museum of Art, this hand woven wall hanging was made with wool roving, mull (a thin open-weave linen), linen rope, alpaca, cotton and other natural hand dyed fibers. Handmade tassels add further texture to this monochromatic weaving. Recycled sari silk ribbons make up the fringe. It is hanging on an oak dowel with hand painted white ends, suspended by a piece of deerskin leather.
